about

Honestly, there’s not much concept or anything overly thematic about this track. I wish I had a cool story, but it’s just the result of messing around with some samples and trying to come up with ideas on the fly. I usually won’t even start experimenting without a plan or some sort of title idea. Still, I was feeling uncharacteristically spontaneous at the time. This usually doesn’t work out great for me, but this time it did, and I’m stoked.

What stands out about this track to me is that it came together rather quickly, and it pretty much wrote itself. I was experiencing a good state of flow. Ideas that popped up kept working, and everything fell into place naturally. As it was taking shape, I decided to keep it simple and also shorter than usual. I haven’t written anything under 3 minutes in a long time. I tried to not overthink things, and it was refreshing. To not take it too seriously.

I actually wanted to try and not use any vocals in this track as I’ve been on autopilot with that lately. I don’t use vocals in my music if I don’t feel it really needs to be there. But I’ve ended up writing a lot of music with vocal elements as default, and I wanted to change things up a bit. I did however realise later that this track did indeed need a little something-something, which ended up being quirky vocal chops.

Although this chipper, upbeat song doesn’t reflect my headspace at the time, I just went with it. I wanted to follow the ideas and fulfil the flow I was experiencing. Because I had no expectation with regards to direction or concept when I started writing, I decided to title it “This is Fine”, after the meme. It’s sarcastic and more of an inside joke with myself, but it felt fitting, and I’m glad to have given life to this little song…
